Office 365 Home and Personal Subscribers Get 1 TB of Free OneDrive Storage Starting Today

You've waited patiently. Well, you've waited. And today is the (first) day: Microsoft has finally opened up the promised 1 TB of additional OneDrive cloud storage for customers who subscribe to Office 365 Home or Personal. Now, you just need to fill it up.

Microsoft announced this change was coming almost a month ago. At the time, the firm revealed a number of storage-related changes that were coming to OneDrive. Key among these changes, for many, was news that those who subscribed to consumer-oriented versions of Office 365 would receive a whopping 1 TB of additional free OneDrive storage.

"We really want to make OneDrive the one place for all the stuff that people have in their personal and work lives," OneDrive head of product management and product marketing Angus Logan told me late last week. "And part of delivering that is to give people enough storage to move all their stuff into the cloud. Now, they don't need to worry about space anymore."

To be clear, this deal is actually pretty incredible. A user with Office 365 Personal of course gets the 1 TB of storage for their own personal use. But a family with Office 365 Home will get the 1 TB of additional storage for every user. So a family with five different users would receive, collectively, 5 TB of free storage.

You can see whether the storage has been added to you own account by navigating to OneDrive.com on the web. You'll see your total allotment in the lower left corner of the display. Or, you can click the "Get more storage" link to see where all your storage comes from. The 1 TB will appear next to "Office 365 subscription."

If you don't see it, relax. :) I'm still waiting on official confirmation of this release, and whether it's worldwide and/or happening for everyone at the same time. (My understanding is that it will rollout throughout the month.)
