IFA 2017: Watching the Microsoft Keynote on 01 Sep 2017 and Partner Hardware Announcements
Over the last few days some of Microsoft's OEM partners have held press conferences at the annual IFA 2017 consumer electronics show to unveil new hardware ranging from top end desktop gaming PCs to the Head Mounted Displays that are coming for Windows Mixed Reality.
Microsoft has shown up at a couple of these events to discuss the announcements and to mention they will have some news to share at their IFA 2017 Keynote which will happen on 01 September 2017 and begin at 5:00 AM Pacific Daylight Time (8:00 AM Eastern).
Headlining the companies keynote will be Terry Myerson the Executive Vice President for the Windows and Devices Group Engineering. As I mentioned earlier, Microsoft just might have some surprise news at this event based on a couple of comments during partner events earlier this week.
Also expected to be part of this very short 45 minute keynote is Peter Han (Vice President of Partner Devices and Solutions) and Nick Parker (Corporate Vice President for Consumer Device Sales).
The keynote will be embedded on the official Microsoft Windows blog on this page for everyone to tune in and watch. It will also be available on demand afterwards.
With no Panos Panay in the lineup, there is no expectation that anything Surface related will be announced. However, we might just get the planned release date for the nearly completed Fall Creators Update. I have previously stated I expect that development to wrap up in September with the update beginning its roll out on the following month's Patch Tuesday - 10 October.
If past IFA events from Microsoft hold true, then we will get a recap of some of the hardware announcements made earlier in the week by partners to highlight the Windows 10 ecosystem. We might even see a couple of new devices from OEM partners on the Microsoft stage - that has been known to happen in the past at IFA as well.
Whatever happens, we will be live tweeting the keynote and summarizing all of the news afterwards so be sure to follow along.
Here are the announcements from earlier this week from various Microsoft OEM partners about their new hardware:
-- IFA 2017: Acer announces gaming desktops, all-in-ones and detachables with Windows 10
-- IFA 2017: Dell unveils mixed reality headset, new laptops, and 2-in-1s with Windows 10
-- IFA 2017: Dell debuts new gaming rigs and rugged tablet powered by Windows 10
-- IFA 2017: ASUS announces Windows Mixed Reality headset and new laptops with Windows 10
