As expected, Netscape introduced Visual JavaScript this morning at theJavaOne conference in San Francisco. The tool will cost $495 when the finalversion is completed by mid-year, according to company officials. A pre-release build will enter testing this week: it will be freely availablefrom the Netscape Web site.

Key features include:

  • Project Manager - manages individual or group development projects.

  • Component Palette - Assembles client-side or server-side HTML,   JavaScript, and JavaBeans components, adds database links, and   leverages Netscape SuiteSpot server functions such as messaging   and directory services.

  • A WYSIWYG HTML page builder.

  • A component inspector.

  • A drag and drop component connection builder.

  • JavaScript debugger.

  • Component Developer's Kit.

The initial release will be available for Windows 95 and NT 4.0 only,although it is written in Java and should therefore be easily ported toother platforms
