Being able to trade in your gas-guzzling jalopy for a sleek new version of the latest model has long been an enticement offered by auto dealers.
Now, "Cash for Clunkers" is coming to IT as well, in connection with virtual desktops.
In what may be the start of a new trend, a Texas computer dealer is letting customers trade in their old PCs for credit towards a new Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. The VDI is built with the very latest technology, including GRID graphics co-processors from NVIDIA that maintain high-level end-user graphics performance even in a virtualized environment.
ClearCube Technology, located in Austin, said its trade-in program "reduces the cost of technology refresh with the added benefit of being environmentally friendly." The program meets all relevant government regulations for PC recycling, the company added.
In addition to getting rid of dusty old machines, there are numerous other advantages to moving toward VDI, says ClearCube. "The benefits are first and foremost security, followed closely by ease of transitioning, upgrading to new Windows operating systems, ease of management, extending equipment lifecycles, and reducing both support and licensing costs."
It all sounds like a good idea, one that probably won't stay limited to Austin for very long.
