A number of data center vendors made product announcements yesterday in conjunction with the AFCOM Data Center World Expo in Orlando. here's a roundup:
Eaton Corporation today announced the Energy Saver System, a technology the company says enables large, three-phase uninterruptible power systems (UPS) to operate at 99 percent without sacrificing reliability. The Energy Saver System uses an intelligent “power core” to adapt to incoming power conditions. Whenever the high-speed line-detection circuitry in the UPS senses a change in condition, the system automatically can operate in the optimal mode - standard, double-conversion, high alert or storm detection mode. Eaton's Energy Saver System is currently available as an option for the Eaton 9395 and 9390 UPSs. Existing 9395 and 9390 units may also have the capability to upgrade to the Energy Saver System.
Wright Line today launched a suite of solutions for total aisle containment, including both hot aisle and cold aisle containment approaches. The suite includes the company's Heat Containment System (HCS), as well as end-of-row doors, end-of-row curtains and aisle containment ceilings. the Wright Line solutions feature modular, building-block designs which can address hot aisle or cold aisle environments, and be used separately or in combination. "Every data center has unique issues of concern. We don't advocate one solution over another. said Carl Cottuli, Wright Line's Vice President of Product Development and Services. Rather, we work with data center professionals to audit current operations and then develop a comprehensive airflow management strategy that makes the most sense for that facility."
Power Distribution Inc (PDI) today announced the release of a new structured bus solution for data centers, industrial, and commercial applications. PDI's innovative Powerwave Bus System with Tough Rail Technology represents a modular pre-engineered product line expansion into the structured bus distribution market. PDI has incorporated the simplicity of vertical drop downs from a common bus with the integration of PDI's Wavestar technology for intelligent monitoring and communications. Founded in 1978, PDI is a privately held, Virginia based company that is a leading provider of power distribution equipment and services.
PDU Cables, a leading maker of power-distribution cable assemblies, will incorporate Packet Power's innovative wireless monitoring modules into its power cable assemblies and adapter cables. In addition, PDU Cables will offer Packet Power energy monitoring solutions to its reseller partners. "We're excited to be one of the first companies to offer Packet Power's technology," said Duncan Lee, chief executive officer for PDU Cables. "They have a solution that leap-frogs past many of the traditional barriers to power consumption monitoring, such as high costs, cumbersome installation and data center downtime."
Raritan has expanded its intelligent power management portfolio with the introduction of a dual-voltage power distribution unit (PDU) with multiple outlet types. The Dominion PX-5652 provides flexibility at the rack by enabling a variety of IT equipment to be plugged into the same rack PDU. "The DominionPX-5652 PDU is ideal for racks with a mix of servers, including legacy equipment, requiring different voltages and outlets," said Naim Malik, Senior Product Manager at Raritan. The new three-phase Dominion PX-5652 has 24 outlets -- three 120V NEMA 5-20R outlets, 18 208V IEC C-13 outlets, and three 208V IEC C-19 outlets.
