Symantec announced a deal to acquire IMlogic, maker of management, security, and compliance solutions for instant messaging (IM) infrastructures. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval. Terms of deal are were not made known.

The acquisition further rounds out Symantec's current offering of security-related solutions. "With the best-of-breed instant messaging management and compliance software from IMlogic, Symantec will be the first and only vendor to offer a complete security and archiving solution to help customers manage all their messaging requirements," said Enrique Salem, senior vice president of Security Products and Solutions, Symantec.

IMlogic brings Symantec a centrally managed solution that can enforce IM policy, defend against IM-based malware and spyware, and provide archival and search facilities as well as extensive reporting for IM traffic.

The deal to acquire IMlogic is one of several recent purchases and mergers for Symantec. In 2005 the company acquired Sygate Technologies and WholeSecurity, and finalized its merger with VERITAS Software. The company also cleared a major hurdle in its process to acquire Bindview, which is scheduled to be complete sometime in the first quarter of 2006.
