Czech-based GRISOFT announced the acquisition of German-based Ewido, a company that makes anti-malware protection. GRISOFT aims to bolsters its cross-platform antivirus and firewall solutions by adding Ewido's award-winning anti-malware protection to its suite of offerings.

Ewido was founded in 2004 and won Digital River's "Internet Commerce Excellence Award for Best Newcomer of the Year" in 2005. GRISOFT, who currently has over 30 million customers worldwide, intends to release new versions of their products in the third quarter of this year. The company also recently received $52 million in investment from Intel Capital (Intel Corporation's venture investment fund) and Enterprise Investors, the largest private equity firm in Central and Eastern Europe. The investment is helping to fuel the expansion of GRISOFT's product line.

"The acquisition of Ewido Networks is the first step in fulfilling our vision of easy to use comprehensive protection against all kinds of cyber threats," said Karel Obluk, CTO of GRISOFT. "In order to provide even broader protection to our customers in the shortest possible time frame, GRISOFT will continue to develop and offer the best security technologies available, as well as work with strategic partners."
