CyberGuard announced that it has acquired Zix Corporation's anti-spam, anti-virus and URL filtering assets for approximately $4 million in cash. CyberGuard will integrate Zix's technology into its Webwasher business, and hopes to gian new customers through cross-selling to users of Zix products.

Rick Spurr, acting CEO, president and COO for Zix, said the products have a solid customer base and the timing of the sale was right because the company would needed to invest significantly in the future in order to remain competitive in the marketspace. With the sale of the products Zix now intends to refine its focus on its core business of producing secure messaging products and solutions for health care professionals.
