Micro Focus Launches ValueEdge Value Stream Management Platform for DevOps

With the goal of helping organizations optimize the value of software application development, Micro Focus entered the value stream management space with the release of its new ValueEdge platform on March 8.

Value stream management is an approach that combines development and operations to help optimize the business impact or value of a specific activity. Value stream management is often closely associated with DevOps as a further extension of bringing development and operations together. Micro Focus' ValueEdge value stream management platform is a cloud service that benefits from artificial intelligence (AI) to help organizations assess and determine the value of applications and software development activities.

"Micro Focus ValueEdge enables organizations to easily and quickly identify high-value business change as it flows across an organization's digital product lifecycle," Julian Fish, director of product management at Micro Focus, told ITPro Today.

How ValueEdge Value Stream Management Platform Works

The ValueEdge value stream management platform allows users to capture change value for a given application or service as well as change flow rates to help identify potential areas of friction and discover high risk changes, according to Fish. ValueEdge can work with multiple software lifecycle development tools, from both Micro Focus and third parties, he added.

"The platform provides a single source of truth across all product delivery domains, from strategy to delivery, removing the need to produce and collate reports, metrics, and insights from multiple disparate tools," Fish said.

The ValueEdge platform was developed in-house by Micro Focus and builds on the company's ALM Octane software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform that provides application lifecycle management features. ValueEdge's new integration hub provides connectors for all major DevOps and workflow tools such as GitHub, JFrog, Atlassian, and GitLab, Fish said. There's also integration with continuous integration (CI) tools including Jenkins, Bamboo, BitBucket, and Micro Focus PulseUno.

"At this time over 100 unique, prebuilt integrations are available," he said.

Part of the ValueEdge value stream management platform is a strategy module that can help organizations define and plan business objectives. There are also quality and functional testing modules for helping evaluate software development practices. In addition, Micro Focus integrated features for operational insights to help organizations understand enterprise service management capabilities.

Overcoming Value Stream Management Challenges

Value stream management can sometimes be a complex activity with numerous challenges.

"As with all transformation strategies, of which value stream management is certainly one, the challenges of people, process, and culture all outweigh the barriers to adoption of technology," Fish said.

With its new ValueEdge platform, Micro Focus is looking to provide an integrated and seamless set of capabilities that empower organizations without demanding change to existing working practices or structures, he said.

"The integration capabilities, aligned with the insights provided by the platform, ensure that value stream management technology can be easily and readily adopted by organizations," Fish said.
