March 2008 Reader Challenge:

Solve this month's Vista Update challenge, and you might win a prize! Email your solution (don't use an attachment) to [email protected] by March 13, 2008. You MUST include your full name, street mailing address (no P.O. Boxes), and a telephone number. Without that information, we can't send you a prize if you win, so your answer is eliminated, even if it’s correct. I choose winners at random from the pool of correct entries. I’m a sucker for humor and originality, and a cleverly written correct answer gets an extra chance. Because I receive so many entries each month, I can't reply to respondents, and I never respond to a request for an email receipt. Look for the solutions to this month's problem at http://www.windowsitpro.com/articles/index.cfm?articleid=98499 on March 14.

The Challenge:

Our February 2008 Challenge was about System Restore, and in addition to entries for the Challenge, I received a lot of email about the subject, almost all of it from users running Windows Vista. In these email messages I found comments, questions, tricks and tips, and incorrect assumptions about System Restore in Vista. Because the System Restore feature is so important to so many users (at least it's important to their ability to have “peace of mind” about their systems), I'm using the contents of your email as the basis of this month's Challenge.

So, here's Part 2 of our System Restore Challenge. All the questions refer to System Restore in Vista:

Question #1: Every time you use System Restore, a new restore point is automatically created so you can undo the changes if they don't fix your problem.

A. True
B. False

Question #2: Vista includes data files in System Restore through the use of which of the following technologies:

A. The Save Data For Restore technology
B. The Shadow Copies technology
C. The Shadow Backup technology

Question #3: Vista does not permit users to turn off the System Restore feature:

A. True
B. False

ANSWERS:
1: A
2: B
3: B
