Q: What OSs can be converted from physical servers to virtual machines using System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012?

A: The complete list of supported OSs that can be converted from a physical server to a virtual machine (VM) is documented at "P2V Prerequisites."  However, at a high level the supported OSs are (32-bit and 64-bit):

  • Windows XP SP3 and later

  • Windows Server 2003 SP2 or later

  • Windows Vista SP1 and later

  • Windows Server 2008

  • Windows 7

  • Windows Server 2008 R2
