To workaround this behavior, you need to have Service Pack 4 installed. Then remove the network adapter driver and re-install it:
01. Start / Run / devmgmt.msc / OK.
02. Expand Network adapters.
03. Double-click your network adaptor.
04. Select the Driver tab.
05. Press Uninstall and OK.
06. Open Control Panel.
07. Press Add/Remove Hardware.
08. Press Next.
09. Press Add/Troubleshoot a device.
10. Press Next.
11. Press Add a new device and press Next.
12. Select No, I want to select the hardware from a list and press Next.
13. Select Network adapters and press Next.
14. In the Manufacturers box, select the name of your network adaptor manufacturer.
15. In the Network Adapter box, select the name of your network adaptor and press Next. If your network adaptor is NOT in the list, press Have Disk to use the driver CD that came with your adapter.
NOTE: You may be prompted for the Windows 2000 CD-ROM or the driver CD that came with your adapter.
16. Press Next.
17. Press Finish.
NOTE: See Ipconfig diagnostic utility: Parameters and usage.
