JSI Tip 7825. When you attempt to install Office XP SP3, you receive 'Error 1931. Setup cannot update the file...'?

When you attempt to install Office XP Service Pack 3 on Windows Server 2003, or on Windows 2000 Server that has IIS and FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 installed, you receive:

Error 1931. Setup cannot update the file C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedWeb ServerExtensions50binFP5AUTL.DLL because it is protected by Windows. You may need to update your operating system for this program to work correctly. Contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance.

This behavior is caused by Windows File Protection.

To workaround this problem, press OK to close the error dialog. The Office XP SP3 install will continue and complete.

To prevent this error on future installs of Office XP SP3, run the following silent install command:

Msiexec /p MAINSP3ff.MSP /qn /L*v C:PatchLog.txt
