The Application event log on your Windows 2000 domain controller may contain:
Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: UserenvEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 1000User: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEMComputer: ComputernameDescription: Windows cannot determine the user or computer name. Return value (1722).
The System event log may container either of the following:
Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: NETLOGONEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 5788User: N/AComputer: ComputerNameDescription: Attempt to update HOST Service Principal Names (SPNs) of the computer object in Active Directory failed. The updated values were UNAVAILABLE and UNAVAILABLE. The following error occurred: Could not find the domain controller for this domain. Data: 0000: 74 07 00 00 t...

Event Type: ErrorEvent Source: NETLOGONEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 5789User: N/AComputer: ComputerNameDescription: Attempt to update DNS Host Name of the computer object in Active Directory failed. The updated value was ComputerName.DomainName. The following error occurred: Could not find the domain controller for this domain.
These errors can be the result of a corrupted computeraccount for ComputerName.
To fix the problem:
1. Join the computer to a workgroup named WORKGROUP.
2. Restart the computer.
3. Join the computer to the domain.
4. Restart the computer.
