JSI Tip 0869. Stop 0x0000009A - SYSTEM_LICENSE_VIOLATION.
November 25, 1998
If you receive the subject BSOD while restoring the registry (after a new install), you are mostly likely the victim of a 3rd party developer.
If an application adds additonal value entries to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlProductOptions
a restore will BSOD with the subject STOP code.
To workaround this criminal insanity, reinstall the 3rd party application prior to restoring.
The only standard Value Name in the ProductOptions subkey is ProductType, a type REG_SZ value. The possible data values are:
Value | D e s c r i p t i o n |
---|---|
WinNT | Windows NT workstation. |
LanmanNT | Windows NT Server installed as a domain controller (primary or backup). |
ServerNT | Windows NT Server. |
Terminal Server | Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition. |
Enterprise | Windows NT Server 4.0 Enterprise Edition. |
If you encounter this problem and you have no easy way to determine which of your many 3rd party apps is the culprit, drop me an email with your 3rd party apps and I will tell you if I know which one or ones (even though you didn't buy it from me).
