Is TiVo violating viewers' privacy?

When Janet Jackson infamously revealed her right breast during the Super Bowl half-time show a few weeks back, the event quickly became the most rewatched event in TV history, according to TiVo, makers of the popular eponymous digital video recorder (DVR). But how would they know that? Apparently, the company is watching everything its subscribers do with the devices, causing consumer watchdogs to raise concerns that TiVo is violating its users' privacy. "I can understand people's concerns," TiVo spokesman Scott Sutherland said in response to these concerns. "But when weighted against reality, they are unfounded." Interesting response, Scott.
