HP Recalls Millions of Fire-Producing Computer Power Cords that Bear This Marking

On August 26, HP announced a massive recall on power cords that were distributed with its notebook and mini notebook computers and additionally AC adapters included with docking stations. A shoddy design can lead to fire.

There's no cost to replace the power cord, except, of course, the amount of downtime experienced during the swap. HP has provided an online form to help determine if your power cord is part of the ones affected and then register to receive a replacement. The affected power cords were sold between September 2010 and June 2012.

The affected power cords will have a "LS-15" mark on them.

HP states that this is the first indicator, however not all power cords with this marking are susceptible, so the online form gives additional steps to figure out if yours is part of the lot number exhibiting potential hazard. These steps include reporting the name and serial number of your computer and providing the date code for the power cord.
