Microsoft Brings On-premises and Cloud Closer Together for Monitoring, Automation and Data Protection

To further blur the lines between what resides on the local network and what is hosted in Azure Microsoft has released a new add-on for its Operations Management Suite (OMS).

Announced at Microsoft Ignite 2015, OMS is a Cloud-based command center, allowing participating companies to monitor critical assets for both on-premises and in the Cloud. For its first release, think of OMS as a combination of:

  • Azure Site Recovery - DR protection for VMs

  • Azure Backup - Backup of workloads to Azure

  • Azure Automation - PowerShell Workflow execution in Azure

  • Azure Operational Insights - Collect, store and analyze log data from Windows and Linux sources from on-premises or cloud and visualize the information for easy understanding

The new add-on released this week connects OMS with Microsoft System Center. Specifically, the add-on seeks to…

  • Expand availability on demand – connect your local datacenter to Azure with Azure Site Recovery to make your data and applications available when needed.

  • Enhance Azure Backup – A new hybrid backup agent, IaaS VM backup with support for premium storage, multi-disk storage, and PowerShell automation, and a single management console.

  • Extend System Center 2012 R2 DPM – Heterogeneous support for host-level, agentless backup support for both Hyper-V and VMware.

Microsoft is offering an introductory promotional offer through December 31, 2015, which includes site recovery to Azure. Pricing is as follows…
