Top SQL Server Sessions to Attend at Microsoft TechEd 2014

This year's Microsoft TechEd conference is less than a week away, and the SQL Server Pro editorial team is busy making preparations to cover the event in Houston. Because of the breadth that this conference provides, it can be a tiresome effort in knowing where to invest your time.

To help, we've come up with a comprehensive guide to review before attending the big show, along with our recommendations for different sessions that sound like worthy of your time.

The official #msteched conference hash tag is your best bet for staying up-to-date on conference news and with the IT community at large. Alternatively, you can also refer to the @TechED_NA Twitter handle for official updates from Microsoft.

You'll also want to follow our internal SQL Server Pro and sister site contributors. Paul Thurrott (@thurrott) from the Supersite for Windows will be attending, along with Windows IT Pro editors, Rod Trent (@rodtrent) and Sean Deuby (@shorinsean). Last but not least, Michael Otey and myself (@blair_greenwood) will be attending on behalf of SQL Server Pro.

Choosing Sessions

Have you had a chance to take a look at the content agenda for next week? Not only is it the content agenda posted on the TechEd North America website, but you can also download the Ch9 app for Windows 8, Windows Phone, iOS, and Android OSs that also has session information. We've parsed through the schedule ourselves, and here's what we recommend attending at the conference:

  • All You Need to Know About Microsoft Power BI for Office 365. May 12. 1:15 – 2:30 pm. Room 332A.

  • SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) Tabular Security Deep Dive. May 15. 10:15 – 11:30 am. Room 330.

  • Building the Modern Analytics Architecture: HDInsight and Power BI. May 15. 1 – 2:15 pm. Room 342D.

  • Scaling Out Microsoft Azure SQL Database: Patterns and Best Practices. May 15. 10:15 am – 11:30 am. Room 372A.
