Quickshot: SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition Free for Dev Essentials
Microsoft is making the developer edition of SQL Server 2014 and 2016 available for free to those part of the Developer Essentials program.

Announced during Build 2016, but not actually part of the Build 2016 proceedings, Microsoft has announced that its decided to make the SQL Server 2014 Developer Edition a free add-on for Visual Studio Dev Essentials members. And, when SQL Server Developer Edition 2016 delivers later this year, it will also be a free download and add-on.
