Datakey announced that it has partnered with Computer Associates (CA) and received CA's "ca smart" certification for its smart-card single-sign on (SSO) and authentication technology. Datakey's smart card was awarded CA's award of excellence for interoperability with CA's eTrust public key infrastructure (PKI) and eTrust SSO solutions.

"Datakey smart cards and client software have consistently demonstrated interoperability with products from industry-leading security solution providers, and integration with CA's eTrust continues this successful history," said Colleen Kulhanek, vice president of corporate marketing, Datakey. "Enterprises deploying CA eTrust PKI, eTrust SSO, and Datakey  smart cards benefit from a highly secure, user-friendly solution that effectively creates an environment of trust for e-business."

Datakey said that an unnamed US state government agency is currently pilot testing its smart-card technology for adoption. The state might use the technology to provide primary authentication for access to a range of network resources, where the technology can help the state reduce users' need to remember multiple sign-on processes, user IDs, and passwords.

Datakey's smart cards offer a range of features (e.g., up to 32KB of storage for credentials), are Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-1 Level 2-certified (required by some government agencies), have on-card key pair generation, support up to 2048-bit RSA key pairs, support multiple encryption algorithms, and work with serial, USB, PC Card, and PC/SC readers. More information about the technology is available at the company's Web site.
