Q. What are the requirements of hot-add and hot-remove of memory using the vNext Hyper-V capability?
A. Hyper-V has had the ability to dynamically manage memory for VMs since Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, however, Hyper-V vNext supports actual hot-add and hot-remove of memory for Generation 1 and Generation 2 VMs that are running vNext. Trying to change the Startup RAM value for a VM that is not running vNext will result in an error. Therefore the requirements are:
Host is running Hyper-V vNext
Guest is running Windows Server vNext
Generation 1 or Generation 2 VM
