Q. Does the Virtual LAN (VLAN) ID I specify on a Hyper-V virtual machine's network adapter persist past the Hyper-V server?

A. The VLAN ID you specify is attached to all packets sent through the virtual NIC, through the physical NIC, on to other switches, and so on—it's not a Hyper-V-only setting. Ensure the switches and network adapters support IEEE 802.1Q to support the VLANs. If you're using a NIC Team with VLAN tagging, make sure the NIC team is configured to allow the VLAN IDs by enabling VLAN trunking, which allows a single physical adapter to act as multiple virtual network adapters. You also want to configure this setting on your switch ports. You may need to specify the actual VLANs to allow through the trunk—it depends on the NIC, team, and switch.
