VMware Enhances their vRealize Suite Cloud Management Platform

At this past month’s VMworld in Barcelona VMware announced major updates to their VMware vRealize Suite. Designed to enable a “Once Cloud, Any Application” approach VMware’s cloud management platform enables you to manage both the private and hybrid cloud with a suite of tools that help you to monitor operations, automate application deployment and track business costs. Their announcements included new releases of:
VMware vRealize Automation 7 – Intended to accelerate the delivery of multi-tier applications, vRealize Automation 7 introduces several new features that make application deployment faster and more efficient. A new unified service blueprint feature provides a graphical drag-and-drop interface that allows you to define IT service templates that can include applications, infrastructure services, and NSX network services along with their dependencies and relationships. VMware has also added a Blueprint as Code feature that enables all-code based service creation and management. You can plug-in new functionality using the Event Broker and a new Wizard simplifies service deployment.
VMware vRealize Business Standard 7 – Designed to enable IT of have insight into the costs and resources of IT services, VMware vRealize Business Standard 7 introduces several new and enhanced capabilities including a single pane of glass that allows you to compare resource costs across private and public clouds. A cloud planning feature enables you to estimate the impact of adding new workloads. Plus, a new Cloud Showback Dashboard enables management to compares IT costs and budgets on a single screen.
These two products work in conjunction with VMware vRealize Operations 6.1 and VMware vRealize Log Insight 3 to provide a comprehensive cloud management platform. VMware vRealize Operations provides monitoring and management for VMware and non-VMware infrastructure and has management packs for Microsoft, SAP, Cisco, Oracle, Dell, EMC and more. VMware vRealize Log Insight provides predictive operational analytics based on real-time log management.
IDC has ranked VMware vRealize Suite number one for two years in the row in both the Worldwide Cloud System Management Software 2014 Share and the Worldwide Datacenter Automation Software 2014 Share categories with 21.6% and 24.2% of their respective markets. You can see an overview of how all the components in the VMware vRealize Suite work together in Figure 1.
