Starting Windows XP's Workstation Service

If your XP notebook won't connect to your desktop machine using the infrared port, check to make sure the Workstation service is started on the notebook.

After upgrading from Windows 2000 to Windows XP, I can no longer connect my notebook to my desktop with the infrared port. Any ideas how to fix this?

In the Control Panel applet, double-click Administrative Tools, then click Services. Make sure that the Workstation service has started. The Workstation service doesn't start automatically in XP if a network card isn't installed.
