Japanese Firm to Acquire Dell’s Consulting Business

As part of Dell’s restructuring to make way for its assimilation of EMC, the company is shedding ties with pieces of its business that no longer makes sense. One of those, reported today, is Dell Systems Corp., the company’s consulting business arm. Dell is selling this non-core asset to Japanese firm, NTT Data for $3.1 billion.

Dell Systems Corp. is actually a rebrand of the old Perot Services that Dell acquired for $3.9 billion in 2009. Perot Systems was an information technology services provider that got its start in 1988 and its name from one of the startup’s primary investors, Ross Perot.

In a statement by President and CEO of NTT Data Corp., Toshio Iwamoto says that this acquisition is part of a key strategy to enable the company to immediately expand its reach into the U.S.

I have some good friends that work at the current iteration and they’ve been extremely happy with the situation. The news today, reached them with some shock realizing they will soon be working for an entirely new company very soon.
