A look at one of the dashboards for Nimsoft NMS Monitoring.

In March, monitoring provider Nimsoft was acquired by CA Technologies. In April, Nimsoft was adopted by Rackspace Hosting as the company's standard monitoring tool for its 60,000 servers. Today Nimsoft scored another big win with a leading player in the cloud sector, as SoftLayer Technologies said it will standardize on Nimsoft and deploy its monitoring solution on more than 25,000 systems.

SoftLayer will use Nimsoft to provide tiered monitoring for its customers, with a standard level providing alerts and critical health indicators, with paid upgrades available to enhanced monitoring of databases, applications and compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs). SoftLayer said it expects to go live with customer monitoring in about three months.

"What differentiates SoftLayer is our ability to provide not only the management tools to control a company's hosted infrastructure, but also the intelligence to make informed decisions about that managed infrastructure," said Sam Fleitman, SoftLayer Chief Operations Officer.

Integration Allows Broad Deployment

"NMS offers a robust reporting tool, which enables us to adapt to nearly any customer environment and provide detailed metrics with efficient, easy to understand reports,"Fleitman added. "Additionally, full API access allows us to seamlessly integrate NMS into our automated deployment and operations process and quickly scale to tens of thousands of servers."

"The ability to provide customers with full visibility into the cloud is an important competitive advantage for service providers like SoftLayer," said Gary Read, senior vice president and general manager of the Nimsoft business unit at CA Technologies. "SoftLayer's decision to standardize on Nimsoft underscores our leadership in providing these essential Unified Monitoring solutions for the rapidly growing cloud market."

Second Big Win

Rackspace said last month that it is standardizing on Nimsoft to offer enhanced infrastructure and application solutions to its managed hosting customers and to monitor its internal IT and cloud infrastructures. ”We chose Nimsoft because they develop their product suite with service providers in mind,” said Steve Mills, chief information officer, Rackspace.

Nimsoft was originally established as Nimbus Software in 1998 and renamed Nimsoft in 2004. It has approximately 800 customers, including nearly 300 MSPs and operates primarily in the United States and Europe. in March CA paid $350 million to acquire Nimsoft. The deal followed CA’s recent cloud computing acquisitions of Cassatt, NetQoS and Oblicore and the planned acquisition of 3Tera.
