IT salaries in the United States vary widely by region, according to the 2013 IT Skills & Salary Report produced by Global Knowledge and Windows IT Pro. While the average salary for this survey was $78,649, higher salaries are seen in areas of the US with a higher cost of living. IT professionals in Washington DC bring in the highest salaries with a mean of $93,499. And Wyoming brings in the lowest with a mean of $52,000. Pacific states show the highest salaries at $89,900, and the Mid-Atlantic follows at $83,249. States with the highest salaries are Virginia, New Jersey, California, Maryland, and New York. The states with the lowest average salaries are Wyoming, Idaho, Mississippi, New Mexico, and Alabama.

The 2013 salary report also breaks down salary by job role and industry and reviews factors such as training and certification that have an effect on compensation.
