Installing the SUR Add-On

Shell Update Release (SUR) is natively available in Windows 2000 and Windows 98. SUR is available as an add-on for Windows NT 4.0 and Win95. In NT 4.0 and Win95, you must install SUR through Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 4.0. In other words, the only way to install SUR is to install IE 4.0 and select the SUR option during IE 4.0’s setup. (SUR is not a default component in IE 4.0.)

If you’ve already installed IE 4.0 without the SUR option, you need to uninstall IE 4.0, then reinstall IE 4.0 with the SUR option. If you’ve already installed IE 5.0, you need to uninstall IE 5.0, install IE 4.0 with the SUR option, then upgrade to IE 5.0.
