I have a problem with NTBackup in Windows NT 4.0. I often need more than one tape to accomplish a backup, but if I lose one tape from a backup set I can't restore files from the remaining tapes. Is there any way around this restriction?

Your problem is easy to rectify. Open the Run dialog box and enter the command

ntbackup /missingtape

You then can restore a file from any of your orphaned tapes. Be aware, however, that this fix won't work in Windows 2000, which uses removable- storage–media commands that are far more complex than NT 4.0's commands.
