Windows 2000 maintains a list of files that all backup programs are supposed to ignore. The default is:

Key Name: SYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlBackupRestoreFilesNotToBackupClass Name: Last Write Time: 02/29/2000 - 04:27Value 0 Name: Client Side Cache Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: %SystemRoot%csc* /s Value 1 Name: ComPlus Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: %SystemRoot%registration*.clb *.crmlog /sValue 2 Name: Internet Explorer Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: %UserProfile%index.dat /s Value 3 Name: Memory Page File Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: Pagefile.sys Value 4 Name: MS Distributed Transaction Coordinator Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: C:WINNTSystem32DTCLogMSDTC.LOG Value 5 Name: Netlogon Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: %SystemRoot%etlogon.chg Value 6 Name: NTBackup Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: D:ZZZDumpmemory.dmp /sValue 7 Name: Power Management Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: hiberfil.sys Value 8 Name: Task Scheduler Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: %SYSTEMROOT%schedlgu.txt Value 9 Name: Temporary Files Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: %TEMP%* /s Value 10 Name: Winlogon debug Type: REG_MULTI_SZ Data: %WINDIR%debug*

The registry keys that should not be restored default to:

I was able to add files to the list in the NTBackup value name.
