Connecting System Center Operations Manager to Microsoft Operations Management Suite

Announced at Microsoft Ingite, the Microsoft Operations Management Suite (OMS) is a new, Cloud-based management console that allows companies to leverage Azure power to keep track of physical, virtual, or container assets. But, it also has the ability to connect directly with your on-premises System Center Operations Manager (OpsMgr) environment.

To connect OpsMgr to OMS:

  1. In the OpsMgr console, click Administration.

  2. Open the Operational Insights node and then click Operational Insights Connection.

  3. Click the Register to Operational Insights option at the top right and run through the registration wizard.

  4. After the wizard completes and the connection from OpsMgr to OMS is initiated, add computers or groups by using the Computer Search option to locate monitored assets and clicking Add.

Data from the OpsMgr clients should start to show up in OMS in 5-10 minutes, but you can verify that the data transfer is working by opening the Server & Usage tile in the OMS portal.

If you don't want to connect OpsMgr to the Cloud, you can also just connect servers and workstations directly to OMS. See: Connecting Your Servers and Workstations Directly to Microsoft Operations Management Suite
