Skype and Lync Hook-up for Same-Text Marriage

The Skype blog today has announced that Skype and Lync have now been conjoined in an effort to link up business and home.

Tony Bates, President of the Skype division at Microsoft, says,

This is our first step in combining the enterprise richness of Lync and the global reach of Skype to transform the communications experience and enable Skype users to reach professional contacts in organizations of all sizes.

The blog goes on to become useful, providing a 3-step process for connecting the two communications tools. With just the latest Skype client and a Microsoft account you can follow steps 1-3 and mix your work contacts with your friends list. The current revision supports Windows and Mac, but Microsoft notes that more client options are coming soon. The latest update also only supports Instant Messaging and audio with video coming sometime in the near future.
