During the annual SharePoint Conference for North America, Microsoft shared a new batch of features for OneDrive for Business users.

Here is the list of enhancements they will be pushing out to end users over the coming months:

  • Scan shortcut on main app page so you can get those paper documents you were just handed into the app for digital storage.

  • Camera Upload to ODfB accounts which was previously only available to consumer customers

  • Password protected links for sharing

  • Block View Only Links from being downloaded outside of ODfB

  • Known Folders such as Documents, Desktop, and Pictures can now be moved on ODfB accounts to keep those files stored in the cloud service

  • Team sites can be set up for automounting for team members as they connect and sync with SharePoint team sites

  • External sharing reports for admins to track sharing activities

  • Customized sharing emails which are sent when a file is shared with someone

  • Transfer ownership of files when users are removed

They also shared the latest roadmap for Office 365 to give customers an idea of what features are in the pipeline for the productivity solution.

Introducing Machine Learning Practica

As all the cloud providers continue to expand their machine learning and artificial intelligence services, they are also offering up free training to help you learn how to use their specific tools.

This past week it was Google's turn to offer free training in this area as they added an interactive course to show you how to use machine learning for classifying images.

Both of these courses are free of charge and only require your time investment.

Amazon Rekognition Achieves HIPAA Eligibility

If your organization works in the healthcare industry then you know the importance of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This U.S. law, passed in 1996, places controls on the access and protection of the health information of patients here in the United States.

So when you are looking and evaluating services, HIPAA compliance is critical to that decision process.

This past week Amazon's Rekognition, their deep learning computer vision service, has now been certified for HIPAA compliance.

Rekognition is a service that adds image and video analysis for your line of business applications for handling Protected Health Information (PHI).

Introducing Microsoft Training Services

There is no doubt that Microsoft has a huge amount of free training tools, courses, white papers, and other things to help IT Pros learn about Microsoft technologies. While all that information is out there and just needs to be discovered through searches and other methods sometimes there is value in a customized targeted plan for training.

The upcoming Microsoft Training Services is the solution to that challenge and is about to enter its pilot stage July of this year. You can now register your organization for the July 2018 pilot.

Windows 10 Community Toolkit v3.0, Windows 10 SDK Preview Build 17677, Windows Server 2019 Insider Preview Build 17677

Microsoft released multiple updates this past week as they continued their Redstone 5 development cycle.

There are two updates for developers to grab the latest Community Toolkit and SDK preview so you can work on your apps in preparation for the next feature update release from Microsoft for Windows 10 this fall.

For those organizations that are involved in the Windows Insider for Business Program not only is there a new preview build for the next version of Windows Server 2019, but Microsoft also released Windows 10 Build 17682 for testers. This is the 14th development build for the Windows 10 client under the Redstone 5 moniker. Early adoption in this testing process can help your own company be better prepared for the next feature update release for Windows 10 which is expected this fall.

My first website – AnotherWin95.com – came online in 1995. Back then I used GeoCities Web Hosting for it and WindowsObserver.com is the result of the work I have done on that site since 1995.

In January 2010 my community contributions were recognized by Microsoft when I received my first Most Valuable Professional (MVP) Award for the Windows Operating System. Since then I have been renewed as a Microsoft MVP each subsequent year since that initial award. I am also a member of the inaugural group of Windows Insider MVPs which began in 2016.

I previously hosted the Observed Tech PODCAST for 10 years and 317 episodes and now host a new podcast called Faith, Tech, and Space.

I began contributing to Penton Technology websites in January 2015 and in April 2017 I was hired as the Senior Content Producer for Penton Technology which is now Informa Tech. In that role, I contribute to ITPro Today and cover operating systems, enterprise technology, and productivity.
