Expanding its presence in the distributed applications market, Informix Corp. plans to buy Cloudscape Inc. Informix will exchange 10 million shares of its common stock for all of Cloudscape’s outstanding stock and options. Expected to close in fourth-quarter 1999, the transaction is structured as a pooling of interests.“The combination of Cloudscape and Informix provides a data management platform that spans the enterprise to the distributed desktop and extends Cloudscape’s market reach worldwide,” says Tom Henn, Cloudscape’s president and CEO. Combining Informix Internet Foundation.2000 and Cloudscape’s portable database and synchronization technologies creates an Internet solution that addresses market requirements for distributed eBusiness, according to Jean-Yves Dexmier, Informix president and CEO.Based on patent-pending technology, Cloudscape is written in 100 percent Pure Java and supports lower ownership costs for distributed and occasionally connected applications. Full-object relational functionality, sophisticated application/data synchronization technology, and zero client administration help developers build high-performance, easy-to-use applications.
