Hyper-V Recovery Manager Renamed to Microsoft Azure Site Recovery

You knew this would happen, right?

Available since January 2014, Hyper-V Recovery Manager is the technology that automates taking the on-premises VMs and replicating them to a second location (generally within the network somewhere) for protection and failover.

Today, Microsoft has officially renamed Hyper-V Recovery Manager to simply, Microsoft Azure Site Recovery. But, more than just the name change, Microsoft is also announcing that there's new functionality built in. The new product, releasing in Preview today, will enable companies to orchestrate the automated backup directly to Microsoft Azure.

Of course, the big value here is that businesses can utilize Microsoft Azure as secondary, failover storage in the event of a disaster, instead of building out functionality in the local datacenter. In essence, you simply utilize Microsoft Azure to expand your network, when you need it.
