Verizon Selects Microsoft Search for Its Phones

Solidifying a big win for Microsoft's search business, the soon-to-be largest cellular carrier has selected Microsoft to provide its default search platform for all of its cell phones.

In a big win for Microsoft, Verizon Wireless has chosen Microsoft to be the default search provider for its cell phones. This news comes after a year of speculation over which search platform Verizon would choose.

This news is just one more piece in a series of stories that evidence Microsoft's continued commitment to trying to boost up its search platform. While Google's search is still widely considered to be superior, Microsoft is intent on being a big player in the search market.

Verizon Communication Inc. is currently the second largest cellular carrier, and is expected to be number one after it acquires Alltell this week. The announcement of Verizon's decision to partner with Microsoft will be made at CES in Las Vegas.
