Surface Pro Price Cuts Now Permanent

This is somewhat expected, but Microsoft has announced that the Surface Pro $100 price cut for the month of August has been extended indefinitely, i.e., permanently. I announced the price drop in Surface Pro Gets a Price Cut for the Next Month and then subsequently announced that the Microsoft Touch Cover is getting a price reduction starting on August 30th.

Microsoft credits success from the price decreases as the reason for making the offer permanent. Microsoft says:

The customer response to recent Surface pricing and keyboard-cover promotions has been exciting to see, and we are proud to begin rollout of Surface Pro, Touch Cover and Surface RT bundles at even more affordable prices starting 29 August. People who buy Surface love Surface, and we’re eager for more people to get their hands on this incredible device.

There's no word of any price reductions on the Type Cover, though.  The Type Cover, in my opinion, is what turns the Surface Pro into a true laptop replacement. In How to Make the Surface Pro v2 a Success, I talk to this point.
