When I began the SQL Server backup test, I had a long list of products I wanted to include, but for various reasons, I had to drop several of them. For example, IBM's ADSM would be considered a standard in enterprise backup, but because of Tivoli's acquisition of it during the review process, Tivoli declined to participate. I originally included HP's OmniBack II, but eventually dropped it because the latest version couldn't run all seven backup drives simultaneously. I started to evaluate Seagate's Backup Exec, but then dropped it after VERITAS bought the product and began focusing it on the small-business and departmental market. Finally, I dropped SyncSort's Backup Express, whose SQL Server component was pulled from the market until certain bug fixes were complete.
