Q: I specified a NetBIOS name for System Center Service Manager 2012 at installation but want to use a FQDN; I updated SharePoint, but when I select a Knowledge Base item in the Service Manager 2012 portal, I see a crash

How to fix an error related to using a certificate that uses the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) but the site is using the NetBIOS name.

A:If you are using a certificate that uses the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), and you updated the Service Manager portal to use a FQDN instead of NetBIOSshort name, everything will work until you try to select a knowledge base article.

You will then see a crash, which the screen shows below, whichrelates to the certificate being for a FQDN but the site is using the NetBIOS name.

To resolve, open the web.config file on the web portal server, found in folder C:inetpubwwwrootSystem Center Service Manager PortalContentHost.Find your server name, replace it with the FQDN of the server, and save the configuration. Below you can see my example using my server's FQDN:

Now launch IIS Manager and recycle the application pool for the Service Manager Portal. The change should take effect and knowledge base articles canbe opened (see screen shot below).
