Q: How do I stop MED-V from waking my machine? I disabled the MED-V 2.0 scheduled task that wakes the virtual machine at midnight, but the scheduled job keeps resetting back to enabled.

A: The MED-V agent is trying to make sure the virtual machine (VM) used by MED-V is patched and available when you need to use it. That’s why it updates it each day at midnight. If your machine is in sleep mode, it will awaken for servicing.

You can change the time that the machine awakes. Create a value named GuestUpdateTime of type String (SZ) under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMedvv2VM, and set to the time you want the VM to be updated. Use the format hh:mm, and remember that it’s a 24-hour clock, so 8:00 P.M. would be 20:00.

If you wish to disable the wake option completely, create a value of type DWORD named GuestUpdateDuration under the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMedvv2VM, and set to a value of 0. This should disable the wake option. Remember, however, that the VM now needs to be patched when used, potentially interrupting its use.
