Microsoft (Kind of) Confirms No Early Access to Windows 8.1 for MSDN and TechNet Subscribers

In a carefully worded message, deep within the bowels of a blog post certifying that Windows 8.1 is ready (well, almost), Microsoft reiterates that October 18, 2013 is the date when the updated OS will be available to everyone. And, by everyone, they insist that commercial customers, partners, consumers, and MSDN and TechNet subscribers will be lumped together for a massive release day.

There's been speculation that Microsoft may release the Windows 8.1 bits early to MSDN and TechNet subscribers, but the new statements indicate that's not the case.

TechNet subscribers are already in an uproar over the cancellation of the subscription service, which gave them access to nearly every piece of Microsoft software, new and old, and now many feel as if this is another slap in the face. However, with the TechNet subscriptions coming to an end on August 31, 2013, this also seems to lump the MSDN crowd into the same boat. Could it be that Microsoft has plans to change the MSDN service?
