With the future of IT in question due to the Cloud and Microsoft's intent to automate or eliminate many of the tasks IT has historically managed, it's interesting, almost ironic, that Microsoft would offer a Live Event to discuss the future of IT. Obviously, they are aware of the growing concern for IT Pros and want to offer assistance to help IT Pros understand what IT might look like in 5-10 years and provide guidance for preparation.
Microsoft Insights 2013 is a virtual event on October 29, 2013 that includes a panel of "instructors" to help discover resources that might be available for preparing for a career in IT.
Looking through the list of scheduled panelists, I'm reminded of the awesome Michael Crichton novel, Sphere. Later turned into a movie starring Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone, and Samuel L. Jackson, the premise is about a government policy report put together that outlines a team of specific scientist "types" that would be required to successfully address alien contact. When an alien technology (or alien entity as the story turns out) is located in a deep sea environment, the team is mobilized. The team is comprised of a psychologist, mathematician, biologist, and an astrophysicist.
The Microsoft Insights 2013 panel includes a team of people from the following areas: Cloud, jobs, higher education, and tech learning – all areas where Microsoft must believe discussions need to take place to ensure understanding of a world where IT is an altered entity. So, while the team may not be addressing alien contact, they are talking about approaching an alien time for many in the IT Pro profession.
The event takes place on October 29, 2013, 9:00am - 10:00am (PDT) and you can register here: Microsoft Insights 2013
