Microsoft has released another free resource in eBook format. The Microsoft System Center: Configuration Manager Field Experience is a book that brings together several well-known Microsoft consultants and company experts and compiles a sort of tips-and-tricks guide. At roughly 90 pages, the book is not a complete tome to Configuration Manager. If you're a newbie to Configuration Manager, this is not the book for you. However, if you're a seasoned Configuration Manager veteran and want to improve your mad ConfigMgr skills, there's some valuable tidbits and "ah-ha" moments that are sure to expand your technical acumen.
The book is broken out into 3 distinct chapters dealing with some of the most common areas where additional guidance is required:
Part 1: WMI for System Center Configuration Manager 2012 administrators is designed to familiarize you with basic WMI concepts and tools, show you how to use WMI classes to create Configuration Manager queries, and help you understand the underlying database design of Configuration Manager so you can create custom reports for querying the information you need.
Part 2: System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Reporting is designed to familiarize you with SSRS and show you how to integrate SSRS with Configuration Manager 2012 and to customize and create new reports using SSRS.
Part 3: Configuration Manager Deployment Tips provides tips that cover a wide variety of different scenarios to help you ensure the success of your deployments.
You can download the free book from here (PDF): Microsoft System Center: Configuration Manager Field Experience
There are a couple code examples in the book. One VBS script and a SQL script. Those code examples are downloadable in .zip format from here: Companion content
If you want a tree-killing (paperback) version, it will be coming to Amazon.com on October 23, 2013. When available, the paperback will be around $6.00 and available from here: Microsoft System Center: Configuration Manager Field Experience Paperback
The Kindle version (my personal favorite format) is already available, and it is free, too. That can be obtained from the following link: Microsoft System Center: Configuration Manager Field Experience [Kindle Edition]
