Just because your organization is not spanning the globe with 10,000-plus employees doesn’t mean your IT infrastructure is any less critical to your company’s success.  In this paper, we’ll look at critical components and principles of a successful IT Infrastructure for SMBs. We’ll examine key services such as directory, security, messaging, and collaboration. We’ll cover virtualization and how it’s critical to the success of an SMB to provide flexibility, extensibility, and future proofing for the infrastructure. We’ll also explore how public cloud services can be beneficial for your company and how to integrate your on-premise and cloud services. For SMBs with a distributed environment we’ll look at how to provide the best experience for remote employees and those employees “on the road”. Beyond internal systems we’ll look at options for providing services and presence to customers and potential customers. The right software plays a major part in a great IT infrastructure but choosing the right hardware configuration is equally important—both from a compute, storage, and network perspective and we’ll look at some of the hardware types typically used by SMBs in their main locations and remote offices, as well as common networking options to keep everyone connected.
