Microsoft Updates OneDrive Apps for Android, iOS

Following in the footsteps of this week's announcement about dramatically increased OneDrive storage for individuals, Microsoft today released new versions of the OneDrive apps for both Android and iOS. These updates make it easier for users to get your phone-based photos (and videos) into OneDrive.

The updates vary a bit between the platforms. Here's what's new.

Android. Videos will automatically be backed up to OneDrive now, alongside your photos (as I explained in Tip: Backup All of Your Smart Phone Photos to OneDrive). The app also looks and works more like a standard Android app thanks to a new slide-in navigation drawer and a new, dedicated Search button.

iOS. On iOS (iPhone/iPad), the OneDrive app uploads more reliably (and with fewer notifications) and does so in the background. It also integrates with Office for iPad (or, on iPhone, Office Mobile) so that you can open Office documents directly in the right Office mobile app. (Rather than opening them in the built-in iOS viewer first and then switching to the Microsoft app.)

Both apps are available now via the respective app stores.
