Amazon Extends Direct Connect to Telx, Atlantic Metro update from September 2012

Amazon Web Services (AWS) continues to expand its high-speed access to its cloud computing service, adding several providers this week. The AWS Direct Connect program allows customers to establish a private network connection to the Amazon cloud that can reduce network costs and increase throughput.

Colocation and interconnection specialist Telx announced the availability of Direct Connect offerings for its customers in Northern California, as well as providing extended availability to Telx Cloud Connection Centers in adjacent markets. Telx said the offering will provide more consistent network performance than "best-efforts" networks.

"Telx continues to expand the portfolio of options available to its clients to build next-generation distributed infrastructures," said Joe Weinman, senior vice president of cloud services and strategy for Telx. "Rather than just a single solution, clients can leverage a range of public and private network transport and interconnection options to deploy optimal hybrid architectures, across a range of multilayer network services, utilizing a mix of colocation, private, hosted private, and public cloud services. We are excited to offer our clients direct access to Amazon Web Services, a leading provider and innovator in the cloud."

Managed infrastructure provider Atlantic Metro Communications announced that it has joined the Amazon Partner Network (APN) with the launch of its CloudDirect Services, which enable customers using AWS to establish secure and reliable connectivity from any of its Internet Data Centers, Network POPs, and locations with Metro Ethernet connectivity. Businesses can access AWS via standard Ethernet over Copper or Fiber, at speeds ranging from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps. CloudDirect is available as a virtual or dedicated LAN link; both options are designed to minimize change to existing connectivity.
