In a blog post today, Microsoft has taken time to set the new upgrade bar, to warn about the end of the free upgrade, and to provide some stats on Edge, Cortana, and cross device gaming.
According to Yusuf Mehdi, the Corporate Vice President of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices Group, Windows 10 now runs on 300M active devices. That's up from 270 million reported in late March, and 200 million in early January.
Mehdi suggests that it’s the free upgrade offer that has pushed Windows 10 on Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices – whether they wanted it or not (examples: Windows 10 upgrade offer during weather forecast and Windows 10 upgrade ruins a game stream to 130,000 followers). The free upgrades will disappear on July 29 which marks the one-year anniversary of Windows 10's launch.
Microsoft also declared that Microsoft Edge (the flailing internet browser) was used over 63 billion minutes, Cortana has answered over 6 billion questions, and Windows 10 has experienced over 9 billion hours of gameplay which includes Xbox One game streaming.
