It has been a while since Windows 10 Mobile has been mentioned in Windows circles as all of the attention and focus is on the desktop version of Windows 10 as its General Availability (GA) date gets closer and the final code is expected to be Released to Manufacturing (RTM) later this week.
Now that doesn't mean Windows 10 Mobile is being completely neglected but the primary mission of the Windows team right now is to get Windows 10 for desktops and tablets ready for its worldwide debut in a few weeks.
However, some movement on the Windows 10 Mobile front did occur today when our Ring Master, Gabe Aul, announced on Twitter that build 10149 for Windows devices moved into the Slow Ring for Windows Insiders.
That means if you are testing Windows 10 Mobile and did not install this build when it came out to the Fast Ring on 25 June it is ready for your phone.
This build introduced the Microsoft Edge browser for the first time publicly and also had the following updates/fixes:
- General UX improvements and refinement
- Improvements to Cortana
- Updated Photos App
- Automatic Camera upload via OneDrive
- Many apps updated so download those new versions from the Windows Store (Beta)
- We have fixed the issue first reported with Build 10051 where Call + SMS filtering would not work after upgrade.
- We have fixed an issue where text notifications weren’t appearing for incoming messages.
- We have fixed an issue where the Podcast app wouldn’t work.
- We have fixed some issues where apps were having trouble installing or updating via the Store Beta.
- We have fixed an issue where the navigation bar couldn’t be hidden.
There are some other areas you should read up on as you prepare to install this build on your phone - especially the part about the blank lock screen during the upgrade.
