Back in February of this year the total number of extensions available in the Windows Store for Microsoft Edge was at a total of 23 options.
I talked about the very slow trickle of extensions coming in for Microsoft Edge and the fact the submission process for these extensions was still a closed process with no public path for extension developers to submit their own work. Each and every extension that is now in the Windows Store has been the result of a partnership and work between Microsoft and the extension developer.
While this ensures a fairly good quality experience with the extensions that are in the Windows Store, it limits many users options to make Edge their default browser because key extensions are not available for Microsoft's Windows 10 browser.
It feels a lot like the lack of apps in the Windows Store for the Windows 10 ecosystem but there are now over 500 million monthly active users of Windows 10 and if you want more of them using Edge as their default browser then the extension options need to grow much faster.
However, the addition of 12 extensions over a little more than three months is certainly the fastest period of growth for them on Windows 10 so maybe, just maybe, we are at the beginning of that cycle where this all opens up.
So what are the new extensions that have been added over the last three months?
